The Strategic Aims of the Association (2006666666)

The main objective of the Association is detailed in the constitution and reads as follows:

‘To promote quality maritime education and training’

From this general objective, a set of key strategic aims have been developed, which are as follows.

The International Association of Maritime Institutions aims to:

1.     Increase it’s standing as an important forum for maritime education and training providers.

2.     Act as a representative body in the development of National and International arrangements for marine education, training and certification.

3.     Provide a professional link between the Marine Industry and education, offering advice about the latest governmental requirements, educational developments and national strategies for educational provision.

4.     Assist members to improve the quality of marine education, training and assessment, which they provide.

5.     Work to maintain and improve the competence of Merchant Navy personnel.

6.     Review internal organisational structures, to ensure that they are the most appropriate for fulfilling the general objective.

7.     Use the most appropriate forms of communication to provide the best service for members and to publicise the organisation to the widest possible audience.

8.     Attract new members from maritime institutions and other relevant organisations.

9.     Raise the profile of the shipping industry and promote the wide range of career opportunities that exist.

10.    Provide examination and testing services on a commercial basis with the purpose of promoting quality and improving standards in the marine industry.
