Sub Groups

About IAMI Sub Groups

The International Association of Maritime Institutions (IAMI) operates four distinct sub-groups, each representing a critical area of maritime education and training:

  • Deck Sub-Group – Focused on deck officer and navigational education and training for Unlimited CoC

  • Engineering Sub-Group – Dedicated to engineering and technical education and training for Unlimited CoC

  • Specialist Sub-Group – Responsible for matters relating to Restricted Certificates of Competency (CoCs)

  • GUEST Sub-Group – Concentrated on the superyacht sector and related qualifications

These sub-groups serve as formal forums for dialogue, consultation, and collaboration among maritime training providers, regulatory bodies, and other key stakeholders. The Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA) is invited to participate in all sub-group meetings, and Full IAMI Members are encouraged to attend those relevant to their area of expertise.

Meetings provide an opportunity to discuss current training standards, assessment methodologies, qualification pathways, and the development of new programmes in response to industry needs and regulatory developments.
